Langley Model Car Club

Introduction

History

The Club has been racing in and around the Slough area for about 25 years at various locations managed by Slough Council.

The Club like many at that time raced 1/12 scale cars and due to demand raced on a Friday and Monday evening. The style of cars raced has changed as the popularity of various car styles come and go.  1/12 scales was replaced by buggies during  90's and in recent years scale saloons have become the largest scale.

Club Environment

The club currently has a large number of junior members aged for 7 upwards.  Parents / Guardians are required to supervisor the younger people wishing to race as  the club CANNOT provide a child minding service.

We encourage people of all ages to take up racing and many of the more experienced drivers and fathers are available for advice and guidance should this be needed.  Several of our drivers now compete in national events with a couple regularly making the A finals (top).

When inside we race on carpet.  The track is marked out with shingle filled fire hoses and the 1st people to arrive get the chance to design the track layout.  If you do not like the layout, arrive early the next week and design your own.

A selection of light refreshments are available each week with all profits going to help support the club funds.

Electricity is available for charging batteries, but it is helpful if people bring and extension lead or mult-way adaptors

Racing Rules

We follow the general rules laid down by the BRCA, with the following being the major points enforced:
- All drivers marshall the heat following their race;
- Drivers should not switch on a transmitter unless their frequency is clear - a frequency peg board is used during practice;
- All cars on the track must have a body shell securely fastened;
- Races and finals are of 5 minutes duration.  Staggered starts are used in qualifying;
- Drivers should not drive round the track the wrong way or in a manor that could harm other people in attendance at the club or damage other equipment;
- only legal frequencies will be allowed.  A list is available on request;
- bad / offensive language will not be tolerated due to many junior members;
- We do not enforce any weight or dimensional restrictions on cars;
- We do not place any restrictions on batteries or motors, but we recommend a mild modified motor like a 17, 19 turn
- When leaving of an evening, if you are not staying to help clear up, we expect drivers to clean and fold down their table.

Control Tyres

The club is currently using Schumacher carpet dragoons as a control tyre and can provide these at £7.50 / pair including inserts.

A control type is used to keep the costs down and provide equal grip for all competitors.  The club believe that this is important so that the younger drivers do not feel disadvantaged by not being able to afford the more expensive tyre compounds.

For youngsters (and other new comers)starting out, the tyres provided with car kits can also be used.

We will NOT allow mini pin tyres under an circumstances.  This is to protect the clubs investment in a new carpet.
